About Us
At FIHM Services for Mental Health Care and Rehabilitation Centre, Okkur, we are dedicated to the compassionate care, rehabilitation, and holistic well-being of individuals affected by mental health challenges. As an initiative of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (FIHM) Congregation, our centre embodies the Congregation's mission to serve the vulnerable, heal the broken-hearted, and uphold the dignity of every human life.
"He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3
Founded in response to the pressing need for accessible and empathetic mental health services in the Sivagangai District and surrounding regions, our centre offers a safe, supportive, and structured environment where individuals living with mental illness can receive professional care, rehabilitation, and spiritual nurturing. We believe that every person, regardless of their circumstances, deserves respect, compassion, and the opportunity to heal and thrive.

Our multidisciplinary team—including psychiatrists, nurses, counsellors, and the FIHM sisters—works closely with each resident to develop individualized care plans that address their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
Central to our mission is the belief that healing extends beyond institutional walls. We place significant emphasis on reintegration with families, providing education and support to caregivers, and maintaining ongoing follow-up to ensure the continued well-being of our former residents. Our services also include specialized rescue operations for psychiatric patients in crisis, carried out with the utmost care, dignity, and legal compliance.
In addition to direct care, we are committed to education and capacity-building in the broader community. We regularly host motivational workshops, collaborate with social work students, and organize therapeutic and recreational activities that enrich the lives of our residents and enhance the skills of our staff.
